Chocolate Coffee Energy Bites
Coffee bites, coffee balls, who knows what you call these … I went with chocolate coffee energy bites, but honestly, can we just call them good? These suckers combine minimal real food ingredients to make the perfect pre-workout or post-workout snack. The added ground coffee gives just the perfect pick-me-up that I know and love!
I first tried coffee crunch energy bites at Lifetime. I finished a workout and headed to the cafe before heading out to work. I didn’t have a snack and happened upon them. I LOVED them. Filling and a great pick-me-up. But they were a little sweet for my liking, and they were $2.99 for two of them. I knew I could make them cheaper. So I did! They are super easy to make and store wonderfully. Here’s what you need.

Questions about this chocolate coffee energy bite recipe
What type of protein powder should I use?
Feel free to use the protein powder of your choice. Obviously chocolate flavored will work best when making these coffee bites. I like to use Truvani Chocolate Protein Powder because it has minimal, real food organic ingredients.
Do I need to use coffee in this recipe?
Coffee balls do use coffee within. Or espresso. Obviously if you are sensitive to these ingredients, take heed. I have another recipe for energy balls that don’t have any coffee within if you’d rather make something different. But if you enjoy coffee, I highly recommend these!
How do I store chocolate coffee energy bites?
Store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Can I use another sweetener?
While I have not tested it, I do think that maple syrup would work just as well as honey. I would use the same amount in the recipe.
What if I don’t have a stand mixer?
A stand mixer can be useful in making breads, cookies, and definitely these energy balls! BUT, have no fear if you don’t have one – you can certainly mix by hand … it’s just going to take a little more elbow grease.
